Did you know that the Dalmatian is named for a 16th century poet named Jurij Dalmatin? The Dalmatian has been found in tomb paintings in ancient Egypt and Spanish frescos from the 1300's. There is evidence of white and black spotted dogs in Europe, Asia, and Africa dating back to antiquity.
Dalmatians are one of my favorite breeds to photograph. They are the only spotted breed dog recognized by AKC and their unique spots make for some striking portraits. This particular Dalmatian pup visited recently and, true to his breed, he was outgoing, happy and has the sweetest face! He loved his cheese treats and was excited to have his portraits made if it meant getting more treats. Such a good boy!
